Biography

Saint Arealdo of Brescia, also known as Aregardo or Aregardus, was a distinguished Catholic saint who lived during the 6th century in Brescia, Italy. He is honored for his martyrdom alongside his sons, Carillo and Oderico, at the hands of invading Lombards. Although there is limited information available about his life, his unwavering faith and heroic sacrifice have endeared him to many Catholic faithful throughout the centuries. Saint Arealdo was a devout Christian who ardently followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. He lived during a time when Brescia was under threat from the Lombard invasion, which aimed to establish dominance over the region. In a final act of martyrdom, Arealdo, Carillo, and Oderico were executed for their refusal to betray their Christian beliefs. Their unyielding dedication and sacrifice demonstrated the strength of their convictions and served as a powerful inspiration to their fellow Catholics. Following their deaths, the devoted Catholic community in Brescia recognized the sanctity of Arealdo and his sons. Their remains were enshrined in the city's cathedral in 1305, serving as a constant reminder of their courageous witness to the faith. Centuries later, on June 8, 1614, their relics were relocated to the cathedral crypt, where they continue to be venerated to this day.
