Feast Day: January 18
Death: January 1, 293
Saint Archelais The Martyr, also known as Archelaus, was a young girl who lived during the early years of Christianity. Born in Romagna, Italy, her life was marked by a deep devotion to her faith and an unwavering commitment to follow Christ. During this time, Christians faced severe persecution under the Roman Empire. Fleeing from the hostility directed towards believers, Archelais sought refuge in the city of Nola, also in Italy. However, even in this new location, she could not escape the fervor with which the persecutors searched for Christians. In Nola, Archelais was eventually discovered and arrested for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was then taken to Salerno, another city in Italy famous for its Christian community. In Salerno, along with fellow believers Saint Thecla and Saint Susanna, she suffered unimaginable tortures inflicted upon her because of her refusal to renounce Christianity. Despite the unbearable pain she endured, Archelais remained steadfast in her devotion to Christ until her last breath. Finally, in the year 293, she was martyred for her faith by being beheaded. Saint Archelais The Martyr was recognized for her extraordinary witness of faith, courage, and martyrdom. Although the exact details of her representation and specific patronage are not widely known, her life serves as an inspiration to countless faithful followers of Christ. Her feast day is celebrated on the 18th of January each year, a day dedicated to honoring her memory and the sacrifice she made for her beliefs. Saint Archelais The Martyr was canonized before the establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, also known as Pre-Congregation. This means that her canonization predates the formal process established within the Catholic Church to recognize saints. As a young girl who faced persecution and martyrdom for her faith, Saint Archelais The Martyr is a shining example of fortitude and dedication. Her life and sacrifice continue to inspire believers to remain steadfast in the face of adversity and persecution for their faith in Christ.
