Feast Day: October 5
Saint Apollinaris of Valence, also known as Aiplonay, Aiplomay, and Apollinare, was a prominent figure in the early Christian church. He was born as the son of Saint Isychius and the older brother of Saint Avitus of Vienne. Born in the 5th century, he dedicated his life to serving God and spreading the Christian faith. In 486, there was a long-standing vacancy in the diocese of Valence, France, and Apollinaris was appointed as the Bishop of Valence. Upon assuming this position, he embarked on a mission to reform the abuses and revitalize faith in the region. Apollinaris worked tirelessly to address the issues that had plagued the diocese for several years. Unfortunately, due to political reasons, King Sigismund exiled Apollinaris from Valence. Despite being away from his congregation, Apollinaris continued to serve and minister to those in need. It was during this period of exile that a significant event occurred, demonstrating his miraculous healing abilities. Apollinaris managed to heal King Sigismund, which led to his eventual return to Valence. Throughout his tenure as bishop, Saint Apollinaris of Valence displayed unwavering dedication to his faith and the well-being of his people. He conducted his duties with zeal, diligently working to restore the faith and strengthen the Christian community in Valence. Sadly, Saint Apollinaris passed away around 520, from natural causes. He was laid to rest in the cathedral of Valence, France. However, over time, his relics were thrown into the River Rhone and subsequently destroyed by Huguenots in the 16th century. Saint Apollinaris of Valence was canonized before the formalization of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, falling under the category of Pre-Congregation. He is not specifically associated with any patronages or representations. The feast day of Saint Apollinaris of Valence is celebrated on October 5th, commemorating his life and commemorating his contributions to the spread of Christianity and the reform in Valence, France. His legacy lives on as an example of faith, dedication, and perseverance.
