Biography

Saint Ampelius of Milan, also known as Ampèle or Ampelio, was a prominent figure in the history of the Catholic Church. He served as the Bishop of Milan, Italy, from 665 to 672 and dedicated his life to spreading the Christian faith. Born in Milan around the 6th century, little is known about Ampelius's early life. He emerged as an influential figure during a particularly challenging period for the Catholic Church in Italy. At that time, the Lombards, a Germanic tribe, invaded and occupied large parts of the Italian peninsula. These invaders practiced paganism, posing a significant challenge to Christian communities. Throughout his episcopate, Saint Ampelius of Milan worked tirelessly to Christianize the Lombards. He saw this as an opportunity to spread the Gospel to a group of people who were unfamiliar with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
