Biography

Saint Albert Quadrelli, also known as Albert of Lodi, Albert of Rivolta, and Alberto, was born in Rivolta d’Adda, in the diocese of Cremona, Italy. Little is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was born in the late 11th century. Albert started his religious journey as a parish priest at Rivolta d’Adda, where he served faithfully for 25 years. During this time, he gained a reputation for his piety, compassion, and dedication to the Gospel. His commitment and virtuous life caught the attention of the Church hierarchy, and on Holy Thursday, 29 March 1168, Albert was chosen to be the bishop of Lodi, Italy. As the bishop of Lodi, Albert became a prominent figure in the ecclesiastical landscape of his time. He was known for his unwavering support of Pope Alexander III during a turbulent period in Church history. This era saw the rise of several anti-popes, including Pascual III, who challenged the legitimacy of the true Pope. Albert, however, remained a staunch supporter of Pope Alexander III, siding with him against the false claims of the anti-pope. In addition to his loyalty to the Pope, Albert actively participated in the 3rd Lateran Council, a significant gathering of Church leaders held in Rome in 1179. This council addressed various issues facing the Church, including the resolution of the papal schism and the establishment of reforms. Albert's presence at this council exemplified his commitment to the unity and well-being of the Church.
