However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he was kidnapped by thieves and held captive for a grueling five years.
After enduring the hardships of captivity, Saint Abraham managed to escape his captors. Determined to continue his spiritual quest, he embarked on a treacherous journey by both land and sea, eventually finding himself in Gaul. Here, he settled as a hermit near the town of Clermont, in the Auvergne region.
Saint Abraham's reputation for holiness spread throughout the land, drawing the attention of countless individuals seeking spiritual guidance. Encouraged by the influx of eager disciples, he built a monastery to accommodate their needs and facilitate their spiritual growth. Under his guidance, the monastery thrived as a center of spiritual formation and devotion, attracting many followers who were inspired by his teachings and exemplary way of life.
