Biography

Saint Abdelcalas, also known as Abdelchalas, Abdecalas, and Abdelas, was an elderly priest who was martyred alongside approximately 100 other believers during the persecutions of King Sapor II. His story is one of faith, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. Born in ancient Persia, not much is known about Abdelcalas's early life. However, his calling to the priesthood and his devotion to the Catholic faith became evident as he grew older. Finally, on Good Friday, a day that holds significant meaning for Christians worldwide, Abdelcalas and his companions were brutally put to death, becoming martyrs for their unwavering commitment to their beliefs. Their martyrdom symbolized their willingness to give their lives for their faith, echoing the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Although Saint Abdelcalas did not leave behind a specific representation in art or iconography, his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of those who admire his unwavering faith and determination. His feast day is celebrated on April 21st each year, a day of remembrance for his sacrifice. While Saint Abdelcalas has not been officially declared a patron saint of any specific cause or group, his story serves as an inspiration for those facing persecution for their faith.
