Biography

The Martyred Subiaco Benedictines of Barcelona were a group of seven members of the Benedictine Subiaco Congregation who were martyred together during the Spanish Civil War. They were beatified on October 13, 2013, by Pope Francis.

The blessed martyrs are as follows:

1. Blessed Agustí Busquets Creixell: A member of the Subiaco Congregation, he bravely stood up for his faith and was martyred for his commitment to Catholicism.

2. Blessed Càndid Feliu Soler: Like his companions, Blessed Càndid Feliu Soler was also a devoted member of the Benedictine Subiaco Congregation. He fearlessly upheld his religious beliefs and paid the ultimate price for his faith.

On the 19th of August 1936, in Barcelona, Spain, the Martyred Subiaco Benedictines were brutally murdered for their commitment to Catholicism during the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War.

These holy men were officially recognized and venerated on June 28, 2012, by Pope Benedict XVI, who decreed their martyrdom. On October 13, 2013, Pope Francis presided over their beatification ceremony in Tarragona, Spain, honoring their faithfulness and sacrifice for the Catholic Church.
