Biography

Martyred Sisters Adorers were a group of 23 nuns who belonged to the Sisters Adorers, Handmaids of Charity and of the Blessed Sacrament. These courageous women were all martyred together during the Spanish Civil War. Their names were Blessed Aurea González, Blessed Belarmina Pérez Martínez, Blessed Cecilia Iglesias del Campo, Blessed Concepción Vázquez Areas, Blessed Dionisia Rodríguez De Anta, Blessed Emilia Echevarría Fernández, Blessed Felipa Gutierrez Garay, Blessed Francisca Pérez de Labeaga García, Blessed Josepa Boix Rieras, Blessed Lucía González García, Blessed Luisa Pérez Adriá, Blessed Magdalena Pérez, Blessed Manuela Arriola Uranda, Blessed María Dolores Hernández San Torcuato, Blessed María Dolores Monzón Rosales, Blessed María García Ferreiro, Blessed Maria Mercè Tuñi Ustech, Blessed María Zenona Aranzábal de Barrutia, Blessed Prima de Ipiña Malzárraga, Blessed Purificación Martínez Vera, Blessed Rosa López Brochier, Blessed Sinforosa Díaz Fernández, and Blessed Teresa Vives Missé.

These sisters were dedicated to a life of prayer and service, devoting themselves to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and helping those in need. However, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, they became targets of persecution and violence due to their religious affiliation.

On November 10, 1936, in Madrid, Spain, the Martyred Sisters Adorers were martyred for their faith. Their steadfast devotion to God and their commitment to their religious calling did not waver, even in the face of adversity and danger. The sacrifices they made were a testament to their unwavering faith and their willingness to lay down their lives for their beliefs.

Their martyrdom did not go unnoticed, and on June 1, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI recognized their heroic virtues and declared them to be venerable. This declaration was followed by the beatification of the Martyred Sisters Adorers on October 28, 2007, by Pope Benedict XVI.

Their beatification serves as an inspiration for Catholics and believers worldwide. It reminds us of the immense courage and sacrifice demonstrated by these women in the face of persecution. The Martyred Sisters Adorers exemplify the highest ideals of faith, dedication, and love for God and others.

Although no books, videos, images, or specific patronages are mentioned in the available information, the legacy of the Martyred Sisters Adorers lives on through their beatification and the recognition of their martyrdom by the Catholic Church. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring strength and bravery found in the lives of those who dedicate themselves to their faith and the service of others.
