These Hospitallers served under the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, an order known for its commitment to providing care and support to the sick and destitute. Inspired by the example of their founder, Saint John of God, these individuals dedicated themselves to serving their fellow human beings with love and compassion.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, the Hospitallers found themselves caught in the midst of a conflict that tested their faith and resolve. Their commitment to their mission of caring for the sick and needy remained unwavering despite the dangers they faced.

Unfortunately, a wave of anti-religious sentiment swept through Spain during this time, putting the lives of these faithful Hospitallers in great jeopardy. They faced persecution, imprisonment, and ultimately, martyrdom due to their refusal to renounce their faith and abandon the vulnerable individuals under their care.

The Catholic Church recognizes their ultimate sacrifice and the heroic manner in which they upheld their Christian values. Pope John Paul II, on May 14, 1991, decreed their martyrdom, acknowledging their deaths as a result of their religious convictions. These faithful individuals were subsequently beatified on October 25, 1992, by Pope John Paul II.

Although the Martyred Hospitallers of Spain faced great adversity during their lives, their unwavering devotion and love for their fellow human beings continue to inspire and serve as an example to all. Their legacy is a testament to the power of faith, compassion, and selflessness.
