Biography

Blessed Yusuf Nehme, also known as Estfan Nehmé, Joseph Nehme, or Stephen Nehme, was a Lebanese Maronite monk who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in March 1889 in the village of Lehfed, located in the region of Jabal Lubnan, Lebanon.

Yusuf Nehme dedicated his life to the service of God and entered the monastic life, becoming a member of the Maronite Order, known for its deep spiritual traditions. Throughout his life, he exhibited a strong devotion to God and spent his days in prayer, contemplation, and serving others.

Blessed Yusuf Nehme's life was characterized by simplicity, humility, and a deep love for his fellow community members. He was known for his caring nature and was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need. Many sought his guidance and spiritual counsel, and he provided them with comfort and guidance.

As a faithful servant of God, Yusuf Nehme exemplified Christian virtues in his daily actions. On August 30, 1938, Blessed Yusuf Nehme passed away in Kfifane, Batrun, Ash Shamal, Lebanon, succumbing to natural causes. His death marked the end of his earthly journey, but his spiritual influence continued to impact those who followed his example.

Recognizing his heroic virtues, Pope Benedict XVI declared Yusuf Nehme venerable on December 17, 2007. Later, on June 27, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, acknowledging his sanctity and the example he provided to the faithful as a model of holiness.
