During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Catholics in England faced severe restrictions and harsh punishments for their faith. Despite the dangers, Blessed William remained steadfast in his Catholic beliefs and actively supported the Catholic community during these difficult times.

Blessed William Lampley lived in the apostolic vicariate of England, which was under the jurisdiction of the Church during this period. He courageously practiced his faith and offered support to the priests and missionaries who risked their lives to minister to the Catholic faithful.

In December 1588, at the height of the religious persecution, Blessed William Lampley was arrested for his Catholic beliefs.
