Biography

Blessed Vicente Jaunzarás Gómez, also known as Father Valentín María of Torrent, was a Catholic priest and member of the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers of Our Lady of Sorrows. He was born on 6 March 1896 in Torrent, Valencia, Spain.

From an early age, Vicente showed a great devotion to God and a strong desire to serve the Church. He entered the Capuchin Order and was ordained as a priest, dedicating his life to spreading the message of love and compassion. As a Capuchin Tertiary, he embraced the ideals of poverty, humility, and simplicity.

During the troubled times of the Spanish Civil War, Father Valentín found himself in an increasingly dangerous environment due to his unwavering commitment to his faith. Despite the dangers, he remained steadfast in his duties as a spiritual guide and comfort to those in need.

On 18 September 1936, in Torrent, Valencia, Spain, Father Valentín was martyred for his faith. He became a victim of the rampant violence that plagued the country during that time, suffering persecution and ultimately losing his life for the sake of his beliefs.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared Vicente Jaunzarás Gómez as Blessed on 11 March 2001. His beatification brought recognition to his sacrifice and serves as an inspiration for Catholics around the world.
