Biography

Blessed Vicente Ballester Far, also known as Blessed Vincente Ballester Ferrer, was a devout Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Valencia, Spain, who met a tragic fate during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on February 4, 1888, in the town of Benidoleig, in the province of Alicante, Spain.

From an early age, Vicente displayed a deep passion for the Catholic faith and a commitment to serving God and His people. Recognizing his calling, he pursued his studies in theology and was ordained as a priest in the Archdiocese of Valencia.

As a parish priest, Vicente dedicated his life to ministering to the spiritual needs of his community. He was a compassionate and selfless shepherd, known for his tireless efforts in spreading the Good News of the Gospel and giving pastoral care to all those entrusted to his care.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, the Catholic Church became a target for persecution by anti-Catholic forces. In this hostile environment, Vicente fearlessly defended his faith and refused to renounce his religious beliefs. His unwavering commitment and refusal to compromise his faith eventually led to his martyrdom.

On September 23, 1936, while traveling along the Teulada highway in the town of Benissa, Alicante, Vicente Ballester Far was captured by the enemies of the Church. He was subjected to severe torture and ultimately martyred for his refusal to abandon his Christian convictions. Despite the unimaginable suffering he endured, Vicente's faith remained unshaken until his last breath.

In recognition of his heroic virtues and martyrdom, Blessed Vicente Ballester Far was venerated by the Catholic Church. On December 18, 2000, Pope John Paul II decreed his martyrdom, acknowledging his sacrifice for the sake of the faith. Subsequently, on March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified him, elevating him to the rank of Blessed.

Blessed Vicente Ballester Far serves as a powerful example of faith and courage amidst persecution. His life and martyrdom inspire all believers to remain steadfast in their convictions, even in the face of adversity.
