Blessed Vicente Alamano Jiménez, also known as Jose María of the Sorrowful Mother, was a Discalced Carmelite brother who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on August 3, 1901, in Fondón, Almería, Spain.
Vicente entered the Discalced Carmelite Order and took the religious name Jose María of the Sorrowful Mother. As a Carmelite brother, he dedicated his life to prayer, contemplation, and serving the community. He was known for his deep spirituality and compassionate nature.
Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, religious persecution targeted many Catholic clergy and religious. On July 30, 1936, Brother Vicente Alamano Jiménez was martyred for his faith in Cabañas de la Sagra, Toledo, Spain. He remained steadfast in his belief despite facing great adversity and danger.
