Biography

Blessed Toribia Marticorena Sola, also known as Toribia Sola, was born on April 27, 1882, in Murugarren, Navarra, Spain. She was a member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, a religious congregation dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized.

Toribia Marticorena Sola lived during a tumultuous period in Spain's history, marked by political and social unrest. The violent Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936, during which Toribia's unwavering faith and commitment to her vocation led to her martyrdom. On October 23, 1936, she was martyred in Barcelona, Spain.

Her life was characterized by her selfless service and dedication to those in need. As a member of the Daughters of Charity, Toribia Marticorena Sola devoted herself to caring for the sick, the poor, and the marginalized, emulating the spirit of Saint Vincent de Paul.

On November 11, 2017, Pope Francis beatified her during a solemn ceremony held at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. The beatification recognition was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid.
