Blessed Tomás Pallarés Ibáñez was a Vincentian priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on March 6, 1890, in Iglesuela del Cid, Teruel, Spain. Growing up in a deeply religious family, Tomás developed a strong faith and felt a calling to serve the Church.
Entering the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, Tomás began his formation and studies. He dedicated himself to the life of a Vincentian priest and pledged to follow in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul, who founded the order. Tomás was esteemed for his dedication, humility, and compassion towards the poor and marginalized.
The turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War saw Tomás actively engaged in providing spiritual and material support to those affected by the conflict. Despite the dangerous circumstances, he fearlessly continued his mission, helping and guiding the suffering population.
On October 13, 1934, tragedy struck as Tomás Pallarés Ibáñez was martyred for his unwavering commitment to his faith. Recognizing his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Pope Francis proclaimed Blessed Tomás Pallarés Ibáñez as venerable on July 5, 2013. Later that year, on October 13, Pope Francis beatified him, recognizing him as Blessed Tomás Pallarés Ibáñez.
