Following his profession, TomÖs continued his theological studies and was ordained a priest on 26 May 1934. He dedicated himself to the service of God and the Church, embracing his calling with great zeal and fervor.

Tragically, the Spanish Civil War erupted, a conflict characterized by political and ideological divisions throughout Spain. Father TomÖs Planas found himself caught up in the violent persecution directed against the Catholic Church during this turbulent period.

On 27 August 1936, in the city of Sabadell, Barcelona, Father TomÖs Planas Aguilera suffered martyrdom for his unwavering faith and commitment to his priestly vocation. He bravely faced persecution and sacrificially laid down his life, becoming one of the countless victims of this dark chapter in Spanish history.

Recognizing the heroic virtues demonstrated by Blessed TomÖs Planas Aguilera, Pope Francis declared him venerable on 21 December 2016. This proclamation recognized the sanctity of his life and his witness to the enduring faith of the Catholic Church.

Finally, on 21 October 2017, Pope Francis beatified Blessed TomÖs Planas Aguilera, elevating him to the rank of the blessed. The beatification ceremony took place at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato.

The first is 27 August, the day of his martyrdom, where he is honored for his witness in laying down his life for the sake of his faith. The second feast day is 1 February, as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs who suffered persecution during the Spanish Civil War.

Blessed TomÖs Planas Aguilera's life and martyrdom serve as a powerful reminder of the selflessness and courage exhibited by those who faithfully held to their beliefs even in the face of persecution.
