Biography

Blessed Thomas Redyng, also known as Thomas Reding, was a renowned Carthusian choir monk of the Charterhouse in London, England. Born in an unknown date and place, Thomas dedicated his life to the service of God within the walls of the monastery.

In the tumultuous times of the English Reformation, when King Henry VIII sought to establish himself as the head of the Church, Thomas Redyng stood firmly against this encroachment on the authority of the Pope. He bravely refused to accept King Henry VIII's claim and remained loyal to the Catholic Church.

As a result of his steadfast devotion to his faith, Thomas Redyng was imprisoned in Newgate Prison in London. In this dark and gloomy setting, he endured unimaginable suffering, ultimately succumbing to a slow and agonizing death by starvation on 16 June 1537.
