Blessed Teódulo González Fernández, also known as Blessed Theodule González Fernández, was a Salesian of Don Bosco brother who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 2 April 1911 in Castrillo de Murcia, Burgos, Spain, and his life was tragically cut short on 9 September 1936 in Madrid, Spain.
Teódulo González Fernández dedicated his life to God and his religious vocation as a Salesian brother. The Salesians of Don Bosco, founded by Saint John Bosco, focused on the education and spiritual formation of young people, particularly those who were poor and marginalized. Teódulo embraced this mission wholeheartedly and served faithfully in various Salesian communities, striving to bring the Gospel to the young people entrusted to his care.
During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, the country was divided by political and social unrest. As a result of his commitment to the Christian faith and his affiliation with the Salesian order, Teódulo became a target for persecution. On 9 September 1936, he was martyred for his unwavering faith and refusal to renounce his religious vows.
The life and martyrdom of Blessed Teódulo González Fernández were recognized by the Catholic Church. On 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, officially recognizing his heroic witness to the faith. He was subsequently beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on 28 October 2007.
