Blessed Társila Córdoba Belda De Girona was a lifelong lay woman in the archdiocese of Valencia, Spain. She was born on May 8, 1861, in Sollana, Valencia. In 1884, she married Girona Lozano and together they had three children. Tragically, all of her children preceded her in death.
After being widowed in 1922, Társila devoted herself to the Church and her faith. Known for her deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, she actively participated in parish life and was a member of Catholic Action. She had a profound ministry to the poor and was dedicated to serving those in need.
During the Spanish Civil War, Társila was arrested on October 10, and imprisoned. Despite her confinement, she continued to minister to her fellow prisoners, providing them with spiritual support and consolation. Her unwavering faith and selfless devotion shone brightly in the darkest of times.
Tragically, on October 17, 1936, Társila Córdoba Belda De Girona was executed. She was shot at dawn against the wall of the cemetery in Algemesí, Valencia, Spain, becoming a martyr for her faith. Her final week was spent in ministering to those around her, even in the face of imminent danger.
Recognizing her holiness and heroic virtue, Pope John Paul II declared Társila Córdoba Belda De Girona as venerable on December 18, 2000, with a decree of martyrdom. On March 11, 2001, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II, further acknowledging her extraordinary life and witness.
Blessed Társila Córdoba Belda De Girona stands as a shining example of faith, love, and service to others. Her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, her active involvement in the Church, and her compassionate care for the poor and prisoners inspire countless individuals to this day.
