Biography

Blessed Stoppa, also known as Blessed Stoppa of Siena, was a devout Franciscan tertiary who lived in the latter 14th century in Siena, Italy. Despite the scarcity of surviving details about her life, historical records consistently highlight her deep piety and dedication to prayer.

Born in Siena, Italy, in the latter part of the 14th century, Stoppa's early years remain largely unrecorded. However, it is known that at one point in her life, she embarked on a journey from Italy to Spain with the noble purpose of assisting in the establishment of houses for religious life. After fulfilling her mission, Stoppa returned to her hometown of Siena to live a life centered around prayer and spiritual contemplation.

Blessed Stoppa's unwavering commitment to her faith earned her a reputation for holiness among those who knew her. Her extraordinary devotion and exemplary piety made a lasting impression on all who encountered her, and she became widely acknowledged for her deep spirituality.

On 29 January 1415, Blessed Stoppa passed away peacefully in Siena, Italy, succumbing to natural causes. Following her death, she was laid to rest in the catacombs of the Friars Minor Observant monastery, located approximately a mile outside Siena. Though there isn't specific information regarding her veneration or beatification, her reputation as a woman of great holiness is evident in the fact that her life has been remembered and celebrated throughout history.
