Biography

Blessed Stanislaw Pyrtek, also known as Stanislao Pyrtek, was born on 21 March 1913 in Bystra Podhalanska, Malopolskie, Poland. He grew up in a devout Catholic family and developed a strong faith from an early age.

Stanislaw entered the seminary and was ordained as a priest in 1940. He was assigned to the diocese of Vilnius, Lithuania, where he dedicated himself to serving the people in the Ikazni parish. During this time, he collaborated closely with another revered figure, Blessed Wladyslaw Mackowiak, sharing their mission to spread the teachings of Christ and provide spiritual guidance to the faithful.

However, their ministerial work was abruptly interrupted by the dark times of the Nazi occupation. The Gestapo arrested Father Stanislaw Pyrtek, along with numerous other Catholic priests, for the "offense" of practicing their religious vocation. Despite the risks and dangers, Father Pyrtek remained committed to his faith and continued to minister to the spiritual needs of those around him.

Tragically, the Gestapo condemned Father Stanislaw Pyrtek to death. On 4 March 1942, he was executed by a firing squad in the forest near Berezovichi (Berezwecz), Hrodzyenskaya voblasts', Belarus. His martyrdom was a testament to his unwavering dedication to God and the Catholic Church, even in the face of grave persecution.

Recognizing the sacrifice and courageous witness of Father Stanislaw Pyrtek, Pope John Paul II issued a decree of martyrdom on 26 March 1999, officially acknowledging his heroic virtue and selfless devotion to the faith. On 13 June 1999, in a special beatification ceremony, Pope John Paul II elevated Father Pyrtek to the status of Blessed, allowing the faithful to venerate him as a martyr and an intercessor.

Blessed Stanislaw Pyrtek's feast day is celebrated on 4 March, the anniversary of his martyrdom, as well as on 12 June, as one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II. His exemplary life and unwavering faith continue to inspire and guide countless individuals in their own spiritual journeys.
