Saturnino Ortega Montealegre was born on November 29, 1866, in the town of Brihuega, Guadalajara, Spain. He grew up in a devout Catholic family and showed great piety from a young age. His strong faith and desire to serve God led him to pursue a vocation as a priest.

After completing his studies at the seminary, Saturnino was ordained as a priest and began his ministry in the archdiocese of Toledo. He was known for his dedication to his parishioners and his tireless efforts in helping those in need. His preaching was powerful, and he had a special gift for reaching out to the marginalized and forgotten members of society.
