Death: August 18, 1936
Blessed Rosario Ciércoles Gascón, also known as Rosario of the Martyrs, was born on October 5, 1873, in Zaragoza, Spain. She grew up in a devout Catholic family and felt a strong calling to consecrate her life to God from an early age. Recognizing her vocation, Rosario joined the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, an order dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized.
As a member of the Daughters of Charity, Rosario dedicated her life to caring for those in need, especially during a time of great turmoil in her country. She lived during the Spanish Civil War, a period marked by intense religious persecution and violence against the Catholic Church.
During this tumultuous time, Blessed Rosario fearlessly continued her mission, providing spiritual support and material aid to the suffering, disregarding her own safety. Her faith and commitment to the Gospel message of love and charity became a shining beacon of hope amidst the darkness of war.
Tragically, on August 18, 1936, Rosario Ciércoles Gascón was martyred for her unwavering faith and refusal to renounce her beliefs. She was put to death in Almenara, Valencia, Spain, along with many other religious men and women who also gave their lives for Christ and His Church during this period.
After her death, Rosario's profound witness and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. On June 27, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized her martyrdom and declared Rosario Ciércoles Gascón as "Blessed," placing her among the ranks of those who died as witnesses to their faith in God.
Her beatification ceremony took place on October 13, 2013, presided over by Pope Francis. The beatification of Rosario Ciércoles Gascón is a testament to her heroic virtue, unwavering commitment to Christ, and her willingness to lay down her life rather than betray her faith.
Blessed Rosario Ciércoles Gascón's life and martyrdom serve as an inspiration to all Christians, urging them to embrace their faith, even in the face of adversity. Through her intercession, may all believers find the courage to stand up for their convictions and radiate God's love in a world often marked by violence and persecution.
