Blessed Robustiano Mata Ubierna, also known as Brother Bienvenido, was a Trappist novice who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 24 May 1908 in Celadilla Sotobrín, a small town in Burgos, Spain. Despite his young age, Robustiano felt a strong calling to the religious life and subsequently joined the Trappist Monastery in Santander, Cantabria.

During the tumultuous years of the Spanish Civil War, Robustiano remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to his religious community. Sadly, the monastery became a target for anti-Catholic forces, and on 4 December 1936, Robustiano was martyred in Santander. He courageously embraced his fate and remained true to his beliefs, even in the face of persecution and adversity.

Robustiano's holy life and sacrificial death did not go unnoticed. On 22 January 2015, Pope Francis officially recognized his martyrdom. This decree marked a significant step in the process towards his eventual beatification, a recognition of his exemplary faith and devotion. On 3 October 2015, Pope Francis carried out the beatification ceremony at the cathedral of Santander, with Cardinal Angelo Amato as the principal celebrant.

The beatification of Robustiano Mata Ubierna serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his religious vocation and his willingness to lay down his life for his beliefs.
