Biography

Blessed Richard Overton, also known as Father Richard Overton, was a Dominican priest who is recognized as one of the Irish Martyrs. He was born in Ireland and dedicated his life to serving God and spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith during a time of intense religious persecution.

Centuries later, on July 6, 1991, Pope John Paul II recognized the martyrdom of Father Richard Overton and other Irish Catholics who were killed for their faith. They were honored and venerated for their steadfastness and unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church. On September 27, 1992, Pope John Paul II beatified Father Richard Overton, declaring him blessed, during a ceremony held in Rome, Italy.
