Biography

Blessed Riccardo of Lotaringia, also known as Riccardo of Lotharingia or Ricardo of Lorraine, was a renowned spiritual student of Radolfo in Laon, France. Little is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was born in Lorraine, in modern-day France.

Riccardo's life took a momentous turn when he attended a sermon delivered by Saint Norbert of Xanten. The powerful words spoken by Norbert deeply moved Riccardo's soul, inspiring him to follow Norbert back to his monastery and join the newly founded Premonstratensian religious order. It was within this austere community that Riccardo began his spiritual journey, dedicating himself to a life of devout asceticism.

Not long after joining the Premonstratensians, Riccardo's exemplary dedication and spiritual gifts became evident. People spoke of his extraordinary ability to foresee future events, which granted him the gift of prophecy. Additionally, Riccardo possessed remarkable skill as an exorcist, helping those afflicted by demonic possessions find peace and liberation.

Recognizing his profound spiritual wisdom and discipline, Blessed Hugh of Fosse appointed Riccardo as the prior of the newly established abbey of Ste-Marie-aux-Boix at Pont-Ö-Mousson, France. As the prior of this community, Riccardo shared his deep love for God and commitment to a life of self-denial with his fellow monks, guiding them in their spiritual growth.

Throughout his life, Blessed Riccardo of Lotaringia continued to serve God and his community with great fervor and humility. His devotion to prayer and penance influenced many who came into contact with him, inspiring them to lead lives rooted in holiness.
