Biography

Blessed Ricardo Morales García, a priest of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain, was born on March 31, 1899, in Puente Genil, Córdoba. He dedicated his life to serving the community of Puente Genil, where he was known for his deep faith and pastoral care.

Father Ricardo Morales García was ordained as a priest and appointed to serve in the Puente Genil community. Throughout his ministry, he showed great compassion and love for his fellow parishioners, seeking to bring them closer to God through his pastoral work and sacramental ministry.

However, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Morales García, along with countless others who opposed the anti-Catholic sentiments, faced persecution and martyrdom for their faith. On July 24, 1936, in Puente Genil, Córdoba, he became one of the many victims of this violent conflict, martyred for his unwavering commitment to his beliefs.

His steadfastness and sacrifice for his faith did not go unnoticed, as his life and martyrdom were acknowledged and embraced by Pope Francis. On November 23, 2020, Pope Francis declared Father Ricardo Morales García's martyrdom, recognizing his heroic witness to the Christian faith. Following this decree, he was beatified on October 16, 2021, by Pope Francis, during a special ceremony held at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. Cardinal Marcello Semeraro presided over the beatification recognition celebration.
