Biography

Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol was a member of the Claretians and was born on 15 February 1911 in Solerás, Lleida, Spain. He professed in the Claretian Congregation on 15 August 1927, dedicating his life to serving God and spreading the teachings of Jesus Christ.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol tragically lost his life as a martyr for his faith. On 27 August 1936, he was shot in La Floresta, Lleida, Spain, bravely standing firm in his beliefs amidst the violent religious persecution of the time.

Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol is honored on 27 August and also on 1 February, alongside the other 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs who were victims of the Spanish Civil War. Their dedication to their faith and sacrifice in the face of adversity is a testament to their unwavering commitment to God and the Church.

Recognizing the heroic virtue and martyrdom of Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol, Pope Francis declared him venerable on 21 December 2016. This decree affirmed that he had lived a life of exceptional holiness and that he had willingly laid down his life in defense of his faith.

Furthermore, on 21 October 2017, Pope Francis beatified Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The solemn beatification ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, emphasizing the significance of his martyrdom and the example he set for all Catholics.

Blessed Remigi Tamarit Pinyol's life and witness continue to inspire believers around the world.
