Biography

Blessed Ramon Rius Camps, also known as Brother Ramon or Raymond Rius Camps, was a member of the Claretians and a dedicated servant of God. He was born on January 26, 1913, in Santa Fe, Lleida, Spain, to devout Catholic parents.

At a young age, Ramon displayed a strong faith and a desire to serve God and humanity. He joined the Congregation of Missionaries, Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Claretians. On August 15, 1929, he made his religious profession, committing his life fully to God and the service of others.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Ramon Rius Camps was a source of great inspiration and strength to his fellow Claretians and the people he encountered. He lived during a period of intense religious persecution, where the Church and its members faced immense challenges.

Tragically, on September 22, 1936, in Cervera, Lleida, Spain, Ramon Rius Camps was martyred for his unwavering faith and commitment to Christ. Along with 108 other Spanish Claretian Martyrs, he bore witness to his beliefs, even in the face of persecution and death. Their act of martyrdom was a testament to their steadfast devotion and love for God.

In recognition of his martyrdom and heroic virtue, Blessed Ramon Rius Camps was venerated on December 21, 2016, by Pope Francis, who issued a decree acknowledging his martyrdom.
