Biography

Blessed Ramon Gros Ballbé, also known as Brother CebriÖ of Terrassa or Ramon Gros Ballvé, was a Franciscan Capuchin friar. He was born on 23 January 1871 in Terrassa, Barcelona, Spain. From a young age, Ramon displayed a deep devotion to God and a desire to serve Him through a life of prayer and service.

Ramon entered the Capuchin Order and made his solemn profession on 13 October 1898, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience. As a Capuchin friar, he lived a contemplative life, seeking union with God through prayer and contemplation.

Unfortunately, Ramon's life was tragically cut short during the violent upheavals of the Spanish Civil War. In the midst of the political turmoil and anti-Catholic sentiment of the time, he was targeted because of his faith and executed by Marxists on 29 July 1936 in Barcelona, Spain. Ramon's martyrdom is a poignant reminder of the immense persecution suffered by many Catholics during this dark period in Spanish history.

Recognizing his extraordinary witness of faith and his ultimate sacrifice, Ramon Gros Ballbé was venerated on 5 June 2015 by Pope Francis, who issued a decree affirming his martyrdom. The Pope also beatified him on 21 November 2015, celebrating the ceremony at the cathedral of Santa Creu i Santa EulÖlia in Barcelona, Spain, with Cardinal Angelo Amato presiding.

Blessed Ramon Gros Ballbé's life stands as a testament to unwavering faith and devotion to God, even in the face of extreme persecution and sacrifice. He serves as an inspiration and a model for all those seeking to live their faith authentically and courageously. On 29 July, the feast day of Blessed Ramon Gros Ballbé, we commemorate his life and honor his memory as a faithful witness of Christ's love.
