He was born on 11 August 1885 in Forcall, a town located in Castellón de la Plana, Spain. Throughout his life, Brother Cayetano José dedicated himself to the service of others and the teachings of the Catholic faith.
As a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Brother Cayetano José devoted his life to providing education to children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and deep commitment to the principles of Catholic education.
However, during the tumultuous Spanish Civil War, Brother Cayetano José faced persecution for his religious beliefs. On 30 July 1936, in Barcelona, Spain, he was martyred for his unwavering faith and refusal to renounce his Catholic identity. Despite the danger posed by the war, Brother Cayetano José remained steadfast and remained true to his calling until his last breath.
The heroic virtues and martyrdom of Brother Cayetano José were recognized by the Catholic Church. He was venerated on 22 June 2004 by Pope John Paul II, who issued a decree of martyrdom affirming his sanctity. Later, on 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed Ramón Palos Gascón."
