Biography

Blessed Pierre Tessier, also known as Pierre Tessier of Angers, was a devoted priest of the diocese of Angers, France, during the turbulent times of the French Revolution. He was born on May 11, 1766, in La Trinité-d‚ÄôAngers, located in the region of Maine-et-Loire, France.

From a young age, Pierre felt a deep calling to serve God and the Church. He pursued his studies in theology and was ordained as a priest for the diocese of Angers. As a faithful servant of Christ, he dedicated himself to the spiritual well-being of his parishioners, offering guidance, sacraments, and solace amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the revolution.

The French Revolution, with its anti-religious sentiments, posed formidable challenges for the clergy. Pierre Tessier, true to his vocation, remained steadfast in his commitment to the Catholic faith, unwavering even in the face of persecution. On February 19, 1984, Pope John Paul II beatified him during a ceremony in Rome, Italy, elevating him to the rank of Blessed.

Blessed Pierre Tessier's feast day is celebrated on January 5, the day of his martyrdom. Additionally, he is also honored on January 2 as one of the Martyrs of Anjou, a group of clergy and laypeople who suffered persecution during the French Revolution in the region of Anjou.
