Feast Day: December 20
Death: January 1, 1277
Blessed Peter De La Cadireta, also known as Peter De Llaceret, was a Dominican priest and a faithful companion of Saint Raymond of Peñafort in Barcelona, Spain. Born in Moya, Catalonia, Spain, he dedicated his life to preaching and worked ardently against the heretical group known as the Albigensians.
Having joined the Dominican Order, Blessed Peter De La Cadireta became a renowned travelling preacher, spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith and countering the spread of heresy. His efforts to combat the Albigensians, who held Gnostic beliefs and rejected the material world, earned him recognition and respect among the faithful.
In addition to his evangelistic work, Blessed Peter De La Cadireta played a significant role in the Spanish Inquisition. From 1258 until his martyrdom, he served as an inquisitor, working tirelessly to uphold the orthodoxy of the Catholic Church and combat the spread of heretical ideas. His dedication and vigilance in defending the faith earned him both admiration and enmity from various factions.
Blessed Peter De La Cadireta's commitment to God and the Church also saw him serving as the prior of the Dominican convent in Urgell. He led the religious community with humility and devotion, providing spiritual guidance and support to his brothers.
Tragically, Blessed Peter De La Cadireta met a violent end for his unwavering faith and tireless work. In 1277, he was stoned to death by a group of heretics in Urgell, Spain. Following his martyrdom, he was interred in the cathedral next to his two predecessors in the office.
The profound impact Blessed Peter De La Cadireta had on the local faithful led to his relics being translated to the church of Saint Dominic in Urgell, where he is venerated to this day. Although he has not been officially beatified or assigned a specific representation, his life and martyrdom serve as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Gospel and his deep desire to defend the Catholic faith against heresy. His feast day is celebrated on December 20th.
