Feast Day: October 12
Birth: February 23, 1874
Death: October 12, 1936
Blessed Pedro Salcedo Puchades, also known as Brother Pacifico of Valencia, was born on 23 February 1874 in Valencia, Spain. He was the second of five children born to the poor but devout family of Matías Salcedo and Elena Puchades. At the tender age of two days, Pedro was baptized.
Pedro's deep faith and desire to serve God led him to join the Franciscan Capuchin order on 21 July 1899. After several years of formation and spiritual growth, he made his perpetual profession on 21 February 1903. Throughout his religious life, Brother Pacifico served as a beggar of the house in Massamagrell, Spain for an astonishing 37 years.
Known for his simplicity, silence, humility, and devoutness, Brother Pacifico was admired by his fellow friars and the local community alike. His commitment to observing the Rule of his Order was unwavering, and he held a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Tragically, Brother Pacifico's life was cut short during the Spanish Civil War. On 12 October 1936, he was martyred near the river outside Monteolivete, Valencia, Spain. The following day, local children discovered his lifeless body, which still held tightly onto a small wooden cross in his left hand.
Blessed Pedro Salcedo Puchades was buried in Valencia, where his memory continued to inspire and shine as a witness to faith. Recognizing his martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable on 20 December 1999. Later, on 11 March 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified him, acknowledging his sanctity and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his faith.
Though Brother Pacifico may not have a specific representation attributed to him, his life of quiet dedication and profound devotion serves as a shining example to all believers. His feast day is celebrated on 12 October, and his memory continues to inspire Catholics around the world.
