After completing his studies, Pedro Cano was ordained a priest and quickly gained a reputation for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith. He was appointed as the chaplain of the Montoro hospital, where he tirelessly ministered to the sick and provided spiritual guidance and comfort to patients and their families.
During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Pedro Cano remained steadfast in his commitment to his faith and continued to carry out his pastoral duties despite the increasing dangers and threats faced by the Catholic Church. On November 23, 2020, Pope Francis recognized the martyrdom of Pedro Cano and declared him "Blessed," acknowledging his heroic virtue and ultimate sacrifice. This recognition was followed by his beatification on October 16, 2021, also by Pope Francis. The beatification recognition ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain, and was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.
