Biography

Blessed Paul Thoj Xyooj, also known as Thoj Xyooj Paj Lug, was a young lay catechist in the apostolic vicariate of Luang Prabang, located in Laos. He was born in the year 1941 in the village of Kiukatiam, situated in the province of Luang Prabang, Laos.

Paul Thoj Xyooj dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith, particularly in his local community. As a catechist, he played a crucial role in instructing others about the beliefs and practices of Catholicism, working closely with the Catholic missionaries in the region.

During a time of political unrest in Laos, Paul Thoj Xyooj's unwavering commitment to his faith would ultimately lead to his martyrdom. On or about April 25, 1960, he was mercilessly murdered by Pathet Lao troops in his hometown of Kiukatiam. His death was a result of his refusal to renounce his Catholic beliefs in the face of opposition and persecution.
