Biography

Blessed Pascual Penades Jornet, also known as Pascual Penades, was a Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Valencia, Spain. He was born on 3 January 1894 in Montaverner, a village in the province of Valencia. Growing up in a deeply religious family, Pascual felt called to serve God from a young age and pursued his vocation to become a priest.

After completing his theological studies, Pascual was ordained to the priesthood and dedicated his life to serving the people of Valencia. He was known for his humility, compassion, and dedication to his ministry. As a priest, he worked tirelessly to bring peace, love, and mercy to those under his care.

Unfortunately, Pascual's life of service was cut short due to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, a turbulent period in Spanish history. During this time of political and social unrest, many Catholics, including clergy, became targets of violence and persecution. Pascual, steadfast in his faith and commitment to his flock, fearlessly remained in Valencia, despite the risks involved.

On 15 September 1936, in the town of Cárcer, Valencia, Pascual Penades Jornet was martyred for his unwavering faith. He was brutally executed due to his refusal to renounce his Catholic beliefs and abandon his ministry. Pascual's heroic and sacrificial death was a testament to his deep faith and unwavering commitment to his Christian duties.

Recognizing his martyrdom and his sanctity of life, Pope John Paul II declared Pascual Penades Jornet "Blessed" on 11 March 2001. The beatification ceremony, held in Rome, celebrated his life, sacrifice, and the enduring impact of his witness to the Christian faith.

Today, Blessed Pascual Penades Jornet is venerated as a martyr and a role model for all Catholics. His feast day is celebrated on 15 September, the anniversary of his death.
