Blessed Nicolás Tum Castro Quiatan was a married layman of the Diocese of Quiché in Guatemala. He was born on April 9, 1945, in Cholá, Uspantán. Nicolás dedicated his life to serving the Church and was actively involved as a catechist, altar server, and acolyte.
Nicolás Tum Castro Quiatan holds great significance in the Catholic Church as a martyr. On September 29, 1980, he tragically lost his life in Los Plátanos, Chicamán, Quiché, while defending his faith. Further honoring his memory, Pope Francis presided over the beatification ceremony of Nicolás Tum Castro Quiatan on April 23, 2021. The beatification recognition took place in Santa Cruz del Quiché, Guatemala, where countless faithful gathered to celebrate his life and witness his beatification.
