In his pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, Nicholas joined the Premonstratensian Order and became a monk at the monastery of Grimbergen, located in Brabant, Flanders (modern-day Belgium). His dedication and commitment to the religious life quickly became evident, and he was appointed sub-prior of the monastery.
