Biography

Blessed Natalio Camazón Junquera, also known as Father Natalio, was born on 1 December 1873 in Castromocho, Palencia, Spain. He was the son of Marcelino and Jacoba, and at the tender age of two days, he was baptized into the Catholic faith. As a young boy, Natalio received his education under the guidance of the parish priest.

In 1888, driven by his deep faith and desire to serve God, Father Natalio joined the Dominican Order in Corias, Spain. He took his religious vows and made his profession as a Dominican on 29 December 1889. Afterward, he pursued theological studies at the prestigious San Esteban de Salamanca.

Ordained as a priest, Father Natalio was assigned to Almagro, Spain, to carry out his ministry. However, even in his youth, he began experiencing severe hearing loss, which eventually forced him to give up hearing confessions and preaching. Despite this disability, Father Natalio remained dedicated to his vocation and found ways to serve the Church in other capacities.

Turning his attention to editing and managing magazines published by the Order, Father Natalio continued to promote Catholic teachings and share the message of the Gospel with others. His passion for writing and his deep knowledge of theology allowed him to contribute significantly to the spiritual growth of the faithful.

Tragically, Father Natalio's life was cut short during the Spanish Civil War when he was martyred for his faith. On 14 August 1936, in El Picado, Almagro, Ciudad Real, Spain, he became a witness of Christ's love, offering his life in defense of his religious convictions.

In recognition of his sacrifice and unwavering dedication to the Church, Blessed Natalio Camazón Junquera was beatified on 18 June 2022 by Pope Francis. The beatification ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Santa María de la Sede in Sevilla, Spain, and was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.

Today, the relics of Blessed Natalio Camazón Junquera are enshrined in Seville, where the faithful can venerate him as a martyr and ask for his intercession. The Catholic Church, through Pope Francis, has officially recognized him as a blessed, honoring his life of faith, sacrifice, and devotion to God's service.
