Biography

Blessed Narcyz Putz, also known as Narcissus Putz, was a Catholic priest who dedicated his life to serving God and his community. He was born on October 28, 1877, in Sieraków, Wielkopolskie, Poland. From a young age, Narcyz exhibited deep faith and a calling to the priesthood.

Ordained as a priest, Narcyz served at the Saint Wojciech parish in Poznan, Poland. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his parishioners. His ministry was centered around providing spiritual guidance, comfort, and support to those in need.

In the tumultuous years of World War II, Blessed Narcyz Putz became a victim of the Nazi regime's anti-Catholic repression. In 1939, he was arrested during the Nazi anti-Catholic sweeps and was subsequently sent to the Dachau concentration camp. Despite the dire circumstances, Narcyz's faith remained resolute, and he continued to minister to his fellow prisoners. He selflessly cared for them, offering solace, hope, and spiritual nourishment amidst the horrors of the camp.

Bearing witness to the immense suffering in Dachau, Narcyz himself endured various hardships and privations with remarkable dignity. He faced disease, hunger, and general abuse, yet he remained steadfast in his commitment to his calling as a priest and his unwavering faith in God.

On December 5, 1942, Blessed Narcyz Putz tragically succumbed to the harsh conditions of Dachau, losing his life due to disease and the general mistreatment inflicted upon him. He bore his trials with remarkable strength and unwavering devotion to God and his fellow prisoners.

Blessed Narcyz Putz's unwavering commitment to his faith and his selfless dedication to serving others even in the darkest of times led to his recognition as a martyr. Pope John Paul II recognized his martyrdom on March 26, 1999, through a decree, and on June 13, 1999, he was beatified by the same pope, thus allowing the faithful to venerate him and seek his intercession.

Blessed Narcyz's feast days are celebrated on December 5th, the anniversary of his death, and on June 12th, along with the other 108 Martyrs of World War II. His life serves as a testament to his unwavering faith, selflessness, and courage, inspiring others to live their lives in service to God and their fellow human beings.
