Blessed Narcís SitjÖ Basté, also known as Blessed Narcís, was a Catholic priest and member of the Sons of the Holy Family. He was born on 1 November 1867 in Sant Andreu de Palomar, Barcelona, Spain. Blessed Narcís dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow men.
As a priest, Blessed Narcís held a prominent role within the religious community. He served as the novice master and general counsel of Saint Jose Manyanet and the Sons. In these positions, he provided guidance and mentorship to young religious men, helping them in their spiritual journey and formation.
Blessed Narcís was also known for his exceptional teaching skills and spiritual advice. His profound knowledge of Catholicism and personal piety inspired those around him. His captivating and insightful sermons made a lasting impact on his listeners, highlighting his ability as a preacher.
Devotion to the Holy Family was a central aspect of Blessed Narcís' life. His deep love and reverence for Jesus, Mary, and Joseph guided his actions and shaped his spirituality. Tragically, Blessed Narcís' life was cut short due to the anti-Catholic persecution during the Spanish Civil War. On the morning of 9 August 1936, he was martyred in the Riera de Sant Andreu in Barcelona, Spain. His unyielding faith in the face of persecution and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs marked him as a martyr for the Catholic faith.
Blessed Narcís SitjÖ Basté's exemplary life and witness to the Gospel were recognized by Pope Benedict XVI, who declared his martyrdom on 10 May 2012. Pope Francis subsequently beatified him on 13 October 2013, acknowledging his heroic virtues and his ultimate sacrifice for the Catholic Church.
Blessed Narcís SitjÖ Basté rests in eternal peace, buried in the cemetery of Sant Andreu de Palomar in Barcelona. His life continues to inspire all those who strive to follow the path of holiness and devotion to the Holy Family.
