Feast Day: October 18
Birth: May 22, 1863
Death: October 18, 1936
Blessed Miquel Rovira Font, born on 22 May 1863 in Vic, Barcelona, Spain, was a devoted member of the Claretians. He joined the religious order and professed on 2 April 1881, committing his life to the service of God and the Church.
As a Claretian, Miquel Rovira Font lived a life of deep faith and dedication. He embraced the spiritual teachings of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, the founder of the Claretians, and sought to spread the Gospel and the love of Christ to all those he encountered.
Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Miquel Rovira Font, along with many other faithful Catholics, became a victim of religious persecution. He fearlessly upheld his beliefs despite the dangers surrounding him. Eventually, on 18 October 1936, he was martyred for his unwavering faith in Cervera, Lleida, Spain.
Blessed Miquel Rovira Font is honored and remembered on two feast days. On 18 October, his martyrdom is commemorated. Additionally, he is also celebrated on 1 February as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, who were all martyred during the Spanish Civil War.
Recognizing his heroic virtue and his sacrificial death for the faith, Pope Francis declared Miquel Rovira Font venerable on 21 December 2016, with a decree of martyrdom. Later, on 21 October 2017, in a ceremony held at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, Archbishop Angelo Amato presided over the beatification of Miquel Rovira Font on behalf of the Pope.
Blessed Miquel Rovira Font serves as an inspiration and a model of faith for Catholics around the world. His life exemplifies the courage to stand firm in one's beliefs and the willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of the Gospel. May his intercession continue to bless and guide us in our own journeys of faith.
