Biography

Blessed Miquel Peiro Victori, also known as Blessed Miguel Peiró Victori, was a married layman and member of the Lay Dominicans in the archdiocese of Barcelona, Spain. He was born on 7 February 1887 in Ayguafreda, Barcelona, Spain.

Miquel Peiro Victori lived during a tumultuous period in Spanish history, the Spanish Civil War. During this time, he remained faithful to his Catholic beliefs and actively participated in the life of the Church. As a member of the Lay Dominicans, he deeply embraced the spirituality and teachings of the Dominican Order, striving to bring about the Kingdom of God through a life of prayer, study, and apostolic work.

Tragically, Blessed Miquel Peiro Victori became a victim of the brutal violence that characterized the Spanish Civil War. On 25 July 1936, he was martyred for his faith in Barcelona, Spain. His unwavering commitment to Christ and his Church led him to face persecution and ultimately sacrifice his life.

On 19 December 2005, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, formally recognizing Miquel Peiro Victori's heroic death. His beatification ceremony took place on 28 October 2007, also presided over by Pope Benedict XVI.
