Blessed Miguel Solas Del Val, also known as Anselmo Pablo, was a professed religious in the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was born on 8 May 1890 in Briviesca, Burgos, Spain.
Miguel Solas Del Val dedicated his life to the service of God and the education of young people. As a member of the De La Salle Brothers, he embraced the charism of their founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, who emphasized the importance of providing quality education to all, especially the poor. Miguel committed himself to this mission, striving to bring the light of knowledge and the love of God to those he served.
During the Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936, Miguel Solas Del Val faced immense challenges due to the religious persecution that was prevalent at the time. Despite the danger, he remained steadfast in his faith and continued his work as an educator, refusing to abandon his students.
Tragically, on 30 July 1936, Miguel Solas Del Val was martyred in Casa de Campo, Madrid. He courageously laid down his life for his Christian faith, refusing to renounce his beliefs even in the face of persecution and violence. His martyrdom is a testament to his unwavering commitment to his vocation and his willingness to sacrifice all for the sake of his faith.
Blessed Miguel Solas Del Val's heroic witness did not go unnoticed. He was venerated by the Catholic Church on 19 December 2011, when Pope Benedict XVI recognized his martyrdom with a decree. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified Miguel Solas Del Val, officially declaring him blessed. This beatification serves as an acknowledgment of his sanctity and a call for the faithful to seek his intercession and follow his example of devout service to God and others.
The life of Blessed Miguel Solas Del Val reminds us of the preciousness of our faith and the importance of standing up for it, even in the face of adversity. His legacy continues to inspire and challenge us to live out our own vocations with conviction and dedication, imitating his selflessness and love for God.
