Biography

Blessed Martín Pozo Díaz, born on 31 May 1870 in Villanueva de Córdoba, Córdoba, Spain, was a devout Catholic layman who lived in the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. He is also known by his birth name, Martín Pozo Díaz. Little is known about his early life and upbringing, but it is evident that he made a profound impact on the Catholic community.

Martín Pozo Díaz led a simple life as a married layman, dedicating himself to his family, work, and his faith. He found great joy and strength in being a devoted husband and a loving father. His deep spirituality and commitment to nurturing his family's faith-life set an example for those around him.

During a tumultuous period in Spain's history, when religious persecution was rampant, Martín Pozo Díaz fearlessly lived out his Catholic beliefs. It was a time when Catholics faced severe discrimination for their faith, and many were martyred for their refusal to renounce their beliefs.

Martín Pozo Díaz's life and martyrdom were recognized by Pope Francis on 23 November 2020 when the Pope decreed his martyrdom, confirming his veneration within the Catholic Church. On 16 October 2021, Pope Francis beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed." The beatification recognition ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain, and was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.

The beatification of Blessed Martín Pozo Díaz serves as a testament to his exemplary life of faith and devotion.
