Biography

Blessed Maria Klemensa Staszewska, also known as Mary Clemente of Jesus Crucified Staszewska, was a Polish Ursuline nun who met a tragic fate during the persecutions of the Nazis. She is remembered as a martyr for her unwavering faith and dedication to God.

Born on 30 July 1890 in Zloczew, Wielkopolskie, Poland, Maria Klemensa Staszewska grew up in a devout Catholic family. From a young age, she demonstrated a strong inclination towards the religious life and a deep sense of compassion for others.

In pursuit of her vocation, Maria Klemensa joined the Ursuline Sisters, a religious order known for their commitment to education and service. She embraced the order's charism and dedicated herself to the spiritual and intellectual formation of young girls.

During World War II, the Nazis occupied Poland, imposing their brutal regime on the people. Despite the dangers that accompanied the Nazi presence, Maria Klemensa Staszewska fearlessly continued her work in the Ursuline community, offering comfort and support to those affected by the war.

However, her faith and courageous actions caught the attention of the Nazi regime. On 27 July 1943, Maria Klemensa Staszewska was arrested and taken to the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, located in Oswiecim. There, she endured unimaginable suffering alongside countless other prisoners.
