Biography

Blessed Maria Corsini Beltrame Quattrocchi was born on June 24, 1884, in Florence, Italy, to Angiolo Corsini and Giulia Salvi. Her father was a royal army captain of grenadiers, which resulted in the family moving frequently to different Italian cities during Maria's early years. They lived in Pistioa, Florence, Arrezo, and Rome, providing Maria with diverse experiences and exposures to various cultures.

Maria began her education in a Rome parochial school; however, due to an incident where one of the nuns spoke ill of the king, her father transferred her to a public school. This change marked a turning point in Maria's life, as it instilled in her a strong sense of justice and ignited her determination to make a positive impact in society.

During the onset of World War I, Maria selflessly served as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross. Her compassionate heart and dedicated service brought comfort to countless wounded soldiers. Following the war, Maria dedicated herself to her faith and became a catechist, providing religious education to women in her parish.

Later in life, Maria met and married Blessed Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi, with whom she had four children. Their marriage was a testament to their mutual commitment to their faith and their family. Even during the trying times of World War II, Maria and Luigi's home became a shelter for numerous refugees, demonstrating their deep sense of hospitality and compassion for those in need.

Maria's passion for education led her to pursue a career as a professor and a writer. She authored several influential works centered around the importance of education, particularly in shaping the character and moral values of young generations. Maria was also an active member of Women's Catholic Action, engaging in various initiatives that aimed to promote the dignity and rights of women.

Recognized for her exceptional virtues and unwavering faith, Maria was venerated by Pope John Paul II on July 7, 2001, through a decree of heroic virtues. Her beatification took place on October 21, 2001, by the same pope. The miracle attributed to her intercession involved the healing of a young man with a severe circulatory disorder, who later became a neuro-surgeon in Milan, Italy.

Blessed Maria Corsini Beltrame Quattrocchi passed away on August 26, 1965, in Serravalle, Arezzo, Italy, due to natural causes. Her feast day is celebrated on August 26, and in some calendars, it is also observed on November 25. Her life continues to inspire and encourage people to live according to the teachings of the Catholic faith and to show compassion and love towards all, especially those in need.
